U.P. Governor leaves for Delhi to meet Patil

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Governor T.V. Rajeswar on Saturday left for New Delhi reportedly for a meeting with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

The Governor had a couple of days ago written to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav asking him to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the serial killings in Nithari. Mr. Yadav sought a CBI probe on Friday not only in the Nithari case but also in the Meerut lecturer Kavita Rani murder case.

Mr. Rajeswar is also likely to meet President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to apprise him of the law and order situation in the State.

The Opposition parties in the State, mainly the Congress and the BJP, had been demanding imposition of President's rule in the State citing ``poor law and order'' situation.

The Chief Minister has, however, claimed that the situation was better than in the Congress-ruled States of Delhi and Maharashtra.

He accused them of politicising issues such as serial killings of children in Nithari instead of expressing sympathy with the bereaved families.
