All set for polio vaccination today

KOCHI: A total of 2,51,031 children below five years will be given the anti-polio vaccine in the district as part of the National Polio Eradication Programme on January 7 and February 11.

The district-level inauguration of the programme will be held at Ernakulam General Hospital by Fisheries Minister S. Sarma at 8 a.m. on Sunday. K.V. Thomas, MLA, will preside over the function and District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish will deliver the keynote address. The campaign will be led by 4,016 trained volunteers and 201 supervisors in the district. Ninety-two transit and mobile booths have been arranged. Booths have been set up at Government and private hospitals, primary health centres, family welfare centres, Anganwadis, railway and bus stations, airport and boat jetties.

The mobile booths will focus on the slum areas, wayside accommodation facilities, wedding halls, and festival and exhibition venues. The booths will function from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Those who miss the campaign can avail of the facility in which the vaccine will be supplied to their homes, according to the District Collector.
