CHENNAI:
An unidentified person escaped with a diamond jewel worth Rs. five lakh from a jewellery shop here on Saturday.
Police said a youth stepped into a showroom situated in Secretariat Colony police station limits and purchased a nose stud.
He enquired about the price of different gold chains and ordered one piece.
Later, he wanted to have a look at some of the diamond jewels.
Before leaving the shop, he exchanged two 50-rupee notes for one 100-rupee note.
After sometime, the shopkeeper realised that a diamond jewel was missing.
A senior officer, who conducted enquiries with the shopkeeper and his staff, said the trickster spoke in Hindi and was wearing a cap.
Based on a complaint, a case of missing jewellery has been registered. A hunt is on to nab the accused, he added.
