Community halls inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday inaugurated two-newly constructed community halls in West Delhi -- one at Buddela Village and the other at Vikaspuri.

The two-storey structure at Buddela Village has come up a cost of Rs.1.25-crore, while Rs.1.20-crore was spent on constructing the community hall at Vikaspuri.

Ms. Dikshit also inaugurated a senior citizens recreation centre at Budela. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the construction of a 200-bed hospital at Vikaspuri would start shortly.

Another rape case accused arrested

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old employee of Swami Dayanand Hospital has been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly raping a woman. Two more employees of the hospital were arrested earlier.

According to the police, the accused, Rakesh, a grade three employee with the hospital, was arrested at Raj Nagar on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border on Sunday afternoon. He was absconding after allegedly committing the crime. The other two accused are Rishi (32) and Sanjeev (30).

The 37-year-old victim from Bulandshahr was admitted to hospital on December 28. She had to undergo a surgery the next day. The accused took her to a room on the pretext of pre-operation check up and allegedly criminally assaulted her.

Sharp-shooter nabbed

NEW DELHI: An alleged sharp-shooter involved in several cases of murder and attempt to murder has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

Acting on a tip-off, the accused, Sandeep alias Santy, was arrested from his native village Mundka in West Delhi on Saturday evening. Sandeep is allegedly associated with Krishan Pehalwan gang operating in Haryana.

During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to his involvement in a murder and an attempt to murder cases. He also provided shelter to the gang members in the village.

Jamia student fatally knocked down

NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old student of Jamia Millia Islamia was knocked down by a tempo near his college in South Delhi on Sunday. The driver of the tempo has been arrested.

According to the police, Javed Ashraf was going home on his motorcycle when a speeding tempo hit him from behind. Ashraf, a resident of Okhala Vihar, died on the spot.

The driver, Pandey Lal (30), has been arrested.
