ANANTAPUR: Percolation and irrigation tanks in the district would be revived under the `Indiramma Cheruvula Punaruddharana' taken up with funds under the NREGS, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development G. Surya Rao said on Monday. Inaugurating the tank restoration works at B. Yaleru village of Atmakur mandal in the district, he said the scheme would not only revive dilapidated tanks, but would also provide work to labourers and prevent migration. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had taken up restoration of tanks belonging to the Vijayanagara era, the Minister said. He said some 5 lakh job cards were given to the job seekers in the district under NREGS and about Rs. 46 crores was already paid as wages. District Collector D. Kadmiel said that 1,414 works were sanctioned under the new scheme to revive 914 tanks at an estimated cost of Rs. 66 crores. The B. Yaleru tank would be repaired with about Rs. 16 lakhs and would create 9,013 mandays. About Rs. 8.78 lakhs would be spent on material and Rs. 7.21 lakhs on wages.
