NALGONDA: Vexed with the alleged nonchalant attitude of the administration, villagers of Pittampally in Chityal mandal have approached the visiting Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development and filed a complaint against a sponge iron unit causing pollution.

"Ashirwad factory is wreaking havoc in our lives. All our belongings, clothes and trees are covered in soot being generated by the factory. No one is taking our complaint seriously," a youngster told the eight-member delegation.

To drive her point home, a villager Tummala Shankaramma placed some mango leaves and tomatoes covered in soot in front of the dais. The members evinced keen interest in the problem.

The villagers blocked the convoy of the delegation demanding its intervention in shutting down the factory. Reacting to the protest, one of the committee members Chandan Mitra inspected a mango orchard to check the soot on the leaves. told reporters that he would raise the issue in the Parliament.

Earlier the team launched repair works of Kandagoni tank under National Employment Guarantee Scheme at Pittampally.
