KADAPA: Minister for Information and Power Mohd. Shabbeer Ali said on Monday that 11,445 tanks would be developed in 13 districts in the State with an outlay of Rs. 575 crores under `Indiramma Cheruvu' scheme to stabilise 6.50 lakh acres of ayacut lands. Six hundred and forty four tanks would be developed in Kadapa district with an outlay of Rs. 30 crores, he said after launching the scheme at Venkatasettipalle village in Badvel mandal. He unveiled a plaque to reconstruct Beeram Basireddy tank at a cost of Rs. 12 lakhs to stabilise 100 acres of ayacut at Venkatasettipalle. Works to strengthen tanks, heighten tank bunds and desilting tanks would be completed by May end this year, he said.
Novel scheme
The Government undertook the novel scheme to increase water storage capacity of tanks, he said. Seventeen thousand works were taken up and 375 were completed under Andhra Pradesh Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by spending Rs. 36 crores, he said. Kadapa district topped the State in implementation of Indiramma scheme by toppling Nizamabad due to concerted efforts by Kadapa Collector M.T. Krishna Babu and officials, he said. Power connections were being given at Rs. 125 per household to below poverty line families. He planted saplings at Venkatasettipalle.
