BHUBANESWAR: The State Election Commission has appointed 33 Expenditure Observers to oversee the polls expenses of the candidates who would contest for the posts of Zilla Parishad Members, Sarpanches and Panchayat Samiti Members in the coming panchayat polls.

Thirty-one Expenditure Observers have been given the charge of different districts, while two officers have been kept on reserve, the Commission said in a an official release on Monday.

It is for the first time that the Commission has imposed ceiling on election expenditure fixing Rs. 75,000 for candidates contesting for the posts of Zilla Parishad Members and Rs. 30,000 for those contesting for Sarpanch and Panchayati Samiti Member posts.
