Classes resume at Berhampur University

BACK IN BUSINESS: Hostels of Berhampur University wear a deserted look as only few students returned to the campus on Monday.

BERHAMPUR: The classes resumed with very low attendance at Berhampur University as it reopened on Monday after remaining closed sine die from Dec 21 following students' unrest on the campus.

Very few hostel borders returned back to their hostels and most of them are students of professional courses like MBA, MCA and Russian language. Large number of rooms in the nine hostels of the university are still sealed as the borders have not yet come, said warden of hostels Baurubandhu Kar.Mr Kar said that the university authorities decided to close two men's hostels of the university and to adjust the borders in other hostels.

The hostels to be closed are Indravati and Bahuda. He said that the two hostels would again be utilised when there would be sufficient number of borders. A new hostel for the M.Phil students would also start on the campus very soon.

Third semester exams

The examination of the third semester of the post graduate courses that were scheduled to start from Jan 5 would now start from Jan 18. The new dates for the first semester examination that were scheduled to be held from Feb 6 would be declared soon. Preemananda Das, a second year student of MCA from Cuttack felt the closure of university affected his studies.

But Prasanna Majhi of Sunabeda, a student of Russian studies, who returned back to university hostel on Monday thanked the unscheduled closure of university which provided him a chance to spend the new year with family at home
