KOCHI: The Government should relax its adamant stand on the issue of the self-financing colleges Act and should convene an all-party meeting to evolve a political consensus at the earliest, said Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State president K. Muraleedharan on Monday. He was speaking to mediapersons at the NCP office here in the city.
Consultation urged
The opinion of student organisations and education experts and legal advice should also be sought before enacting the legislation, he said. Continuing with the legal tussle would only jeopardise the career of students who had already secured admission to colleges. While it was acceptable to criticise judgments, the tendency to take out protest marches against judges was against the spirit of democracy, said Mr. Muraleedharan.
Warns of protests
If the Government did not take immediate steps to solve the crisis, the NCP would resort to protests. A decision on this would be taken at the executive committee meeting, expected to be convened next week, he said. Refusing to comment on the SNC-Lavalin case, Mr. Muraleedharan said it was under consideration before the court.
