CHENNAI: Residents, artists and cultural enthusiasts took a trip down memory lane at Triplicane with the inauguration of the annual `Tiruvallikeni Tiruvizha' organised by Srinivasa Young Men's Association here on Sunday. The day started with nearly 100 `rangolis' fast filling up the T.P Koil Street. The designs ranged from traditional floral motifs to a neatly done rangoli in the pattern of a `dhurri'. The fest, on its second year, had a series of folk and classical dance performances by school children. The dance performances, said Uthra Sarang of SYMA, were dedicated to the memory of eminent residents of Triplicane such as freedom fighters Subramanya Bharathi, and Sathyamurthi. A special `mathemagic' honoured the memory of Srinivasa Ramanujan. SYMA also drew up a list of the residences of persons from Triplicane who made a mark', including poet Bharathiyar and cricketer W.V Raman, said SYMA president T.J Ramani. The `important' places listed in the pamphlets include the Sri Parthasarathy temple and the statuesque Big Mosque, both steeped in history. After sunset, it was time to take out a procession around Triplicane. In keeping with the tradition, a cow and a calf led the procession consisting of a nagaswaram band, `kummi kolattam' by children and bhajan singing by women.
