Puducherry: Around 70 per cent of the Rs.112 crore budget earmarked for development of Mahe region during the current fiscal (2006-2007) had been utilised so far. An official source told The Hindu on Tuesday that a Centrally-sponsored fishing harbour, with an outlay of Rs.25 crore, would be among the important projects for the region. The construction of the harbour had already been started. The harbour would enable the local fishermen and their counterparts from the neighbouring fishing zones to have berthing facilities, dry yard, fish yards and other amenities. It was expected that the harbour would go on stream in the next one-and-half years. Mahe would also have a stadium with an outlay of Rs.6 crore, and a major portion of its construction had already been completed. Funds for new buildings for schools had been provided.
