Oil firms organise LPG safety clinics

Special Correspondent

Targeting beneficiaries of free cooking gas scheme

CHENNAI: With the free cooking gas connection and stove scheme of the State Government set for launch on Sunday, national oil marketing companies are conducting workshops to create awareness of safety norms for using liquefied petroleum gas.

The safety clinics, as known in the oil industry parlance, were launched a few days ago and would be organised across the State in the next few weeks, according to sources in Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Along with IOCL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited are organising the workshops.

Under the scheme — a poll promise of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam — the Government plans to issue three lakh free connections by March-end.
