TIRUNELVELI: The volleyball court at Anna Stadium, Palayamkottai will soon get floodlight facility, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports, T.P.M. Maideen Khan has announced. Distributing prizes to the winning teams of the inter-panchayat union sports meet at Anna Stadium, Palayamkottai, on Tuesday, Mr. Maideen Khan said the facility would be established at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh, and the goalposts on the synthetic turf hockey ground repaired at a cost of Rs.80,000. Funds for both the works would be released from his MLA Constituency Development Fund.
Funds for rural sports
The Minister said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in an effort to invigorate the rural sports activities had allocated Rs.80 lakh and the inter-panchayat union sports meets were being conducted with this funding. Moreover, the Local Administration Minister, M.K. Stalin, had allotted Rs. 1 lakh each to every district panchayat to revitalise sports activities in every village. "The younger generation should make use of these facilities to fine-tune their skills to come-up in their life," Mr. Maideen Khan appealed.
