ROHTAK: Delhi needs at least two points in its concluding Elite Group `A' league match against Haryana in order to rule out all possibilities of being relegated to the Plate division for the next season. Delhi chances of adding to its tally of eight points would be boosted by the return of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambir to the squad. Should Haryana (seven points) gain two or four points and defending champion Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu (four each) win their last games, Delhi will be relegated since it will end up without an outright victory. With the sword of relegation hanging over the teams on view at the Bansi Lal Stadium here, there is a lot at stake. For the record, Baroda with 17 points is the only team, from both groups, assured of a place in the semifinals. Karnataka (15) and Andhra (12) are in contention for the other semifinal berth from this group.
Pacers hold the key
If the pattern of the two games played at this new venue is anything to go by, pace bowlers will hold the key. Given the present weather conditions, the ball is sure to swing all day but not much purchase is expected off the pitch for the fast bowlers. There is every likelihood of an outright result in this match. After all, the Haryana-Andhra game lasted just over three days while the Haryana-U.P. match finished in less than two days. Another decisive match is on the cards.
