NEW YORK: A Pakistani immigrant convicted of plotting to blow up one of New York City's busiest subway stations in protest against wartime abuses of Iraqis was sentenced to 30 years in jail on Monday, local media reported. Shahawar Matin Siraj (24) was arrested on August 27, 2004. Calling his crimes ``extraordinarily serious,'' Judge Nina Gershon said evidence including a video recorded by a confidential informant showing Siraj discussing the plot was more than convincing. Also convincing was an undercover detective's testimony about statements Siraj made. Xinhua
