Vengsarkar blames batsmen

Mumbai: Chief cricket selector Dilip Vengsarkar has singled out the batsmen as the major reason for India's disastrous showing in South Africa where it lost both the one-day and Test series.

``The batting really collapsed. I think that was our strong point, but they really messed it up. That's what I feel,'' Vengsarkar said on his arrival from South Africa in the wee hours here on Tuesday.

Following the reversal, a complete shake-up is expected in the team for the upcoming home one-day series against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Vengsarkar, however, was less forthcoming when asked about the likely composition. On the decision to play seamer Munaf Patel ahead of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the third Test at Cape Town, Vengsarkar said, ``in hindsight you can say many things in which I really do not believe in.'' — PTI
