Rs. 584 cr. for floodbank

Length of the bund 409 km: Minister

Rajahmundry: Minister for Roads and Buildings Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao has said that the Government has given administrative sanction for Rs.584.32 crores for standardizing the Godavari floodbanks to 1986 flood levels. He said that the amount would be spent on raising, repairs to structures, construction of new structures, formation of ramps etc. indicated in Expert Committee recommendations within overall budget of the Irrigation Department.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday the Minister said the Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation), Irrigation and Command Area Development would take action in spending the amount. Under Vasistha Rivar Right and Left Banks there were four packages each, and Vynatheyan there were two packages. Like this in East Godavari there would be eight projects and in West three projects would be executed with this Rs. 548.32 crores, he added. The length of the bund would be 409.70 km.

Polavaram bund

The Head Works Executive Engineer said that they would raise Godavari bunds by two meters.

He disclosed that there was provision for releasing funds for 150-year-old Polavaram west bund. According to officials, last date for tenders was January 17.
