Rajahmundry: Chairman of the TTD Board B. Karunakara Reddy has said that the board has taken a decision to conduct mass marriages free of cost to poor people to tell them about our marriage traditions in Hindu Dharma Sastras. Addressing a programme on Tuesday on mass marriages of the TTD to be performed in February, Mr. Reddy said that marriage became a costly affair and many families were getting into debt trap because of marriages. He said those utilising the mass marriage programme would get one gold `mangalasootram', `silver rings' (mettelu), new clothes for bride and bridegroom, kankanams, a book which tells about Hindu marriage system and its importance, band set, priest and other material. According to Mr. Reddy, for each marriage Rs.4,000 will be spent by the TTD.

TTD three-man committee chairman PVRK Prasad, Minister Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, ZP chairman Ch. Venu, Joint Collector J. Sudarshan Reddy and all MLAs participated. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said that TTD would not introduce conveyer belt or rope way system in future to reduce the rush. He said that they would use Thousand Pillar complex place for providing facilities to devotees. Mr. Reddy avoided in giving straight reply on questions about demolition of Thousand Pillar temple. He said that the board is very tough in dealing with brokers on hill top.
