Coimbatore: Host PSG College of Arts and Science and favourite Loyola College (Chennai) had an easy ride into the semifinals of the 16th State-level inter-collegiate football tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSG CAS grounds here on Tuesday. In the quarterfinals, PSG, riding on the brilliance of its right striker Sabanesh (18th, 45th, 56th) and Ganesan (50th), blanked an off-colour Government College of Technology (Coimbatore) 4-0. Loyola, thanks to Immanuel (12th) and Ilamurugan (59th), defeated Kongu Arts and Science College (Erode).
The results (quarterfinals): Loyola College (Chennai) 2 (Immanuel, Ilamurugan) bt Kongu Arts (Erode) 0; St. Joseph's (Tiruchi) 2 (Karunakaran, Gopikrishna) bt Coimbatore Institute of Technology (Coimbatore) 0; CMS College (Coimbatore) w/o. Jamal Mohammed (Tiruchi); PSG CAS (Coimbatore) 4 (Sabanesh 3, Ganesan) bt Govt. College of Technology (Coimbatore).
Aneesha in last four
M. Aneesha of Perks MHSS staved off a stiff challenge from Ashwini Suresh of Sindhi Vidyalaya 8-7 to enter the under-18 girls' semifinals in the Crimson tennis tournament at the Perks Tennis Centre in Coimbatore on Tuesday. However, Aneesha went down tamely 6-1, 6-2 to favourite Shreya Ravichandran in the under-14 semifinals.
Double for Udumalpet
Udumalpet clinched both the men's and women's hockey title in the district level sports and games meet at the Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering in Pollachi and Stanes HSS in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
