SHIMOGA: The functioning of the Government Medical College start from the next academic year depends on the location of the new building of the Government Ayurvedic Hospital.

The condition laid down by the study team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) during its last visit to the campus that the Government Ayurvedic Hospital being constructed be shifted from the premises of the Mcgann General Hospital has disappointed the staff and people.

Director of the Indian Medical Council has reportedly opposed the suggestion to shift the Government Ayurvedic Hospital that is in the final stage of construction at an estimated cost of Rs. 75 lakh. The Government Ayurvedic Hospital is functioning in an old building for the past several years. The proposal to have an independent building for it in the area was accepted and it is being constructed in the area which has been handed over to the new Government Medical College. The hospital was to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh but its cost rose to Rs. 70 lakh when it was completed.

The team of the MCI that visited the proposed building of the new Government Medical College objected to the presence of the Government Ayurvedic Hospital in its premises and suggested that it be shifted from the premises. The district administration has reportedly identified the building for the Ayurvedic hospital to be shifted temporarily. It is learnt that the Government has proposed to allot a four-acre land in the campus of the nurses' quarters in front of the Circuit House facing B.H. Road.
