RIGHT BEGINNING: Minister for Water Resources K.S.Eshswarappa laying the foundation for the development works in a slum in Shimoga on Tuesday.
SHIMOGA: Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa said here on Tuesday that the Government had set aside Rs. 70 crore for the development of slums in the State under the Nirmal Jyothi Yojane. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation for various development projects at a slum near the Sri Venkataramana temple at Navule he said that it was proposed to take up development of 19 slums in Shimoga at a cost of Rs. 4.55 crore and 15 slums in Bhadravati at a cost of Rs.3.80 crore under the project. He asked members of the Stree Shakthi Groups closely monitor the quality of the development projects to be taken up in their areas. He appealed to the slum dwellers to extend their cooperation for the projects being taken up by the Government by making use of welfare measures introduced by the Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board under the Nirmal Jyothi Project. Hartalu Halappa, MLA, who presided over the function hailed the Nirmal Jyothi Project as a boon for the development of the slums. Municipal Commissioner Jayanna, assistant executive engineer of the Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board Padmanabh and chairman of the Shimoga Urban Development Authority S.N. Channabasappa were present.
Memorandum
Members of the Stree Shakthi Groups gave a memorandum to the Minister seeking civic amenities in their areas.
