MADIKERI: Principal Secretary of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Tara Ajay Singh on Tuesday instructed the Deputy Director of the Department of Food here to take quick steps to distribute ration cards after correcting the anomalies. She was reviewing the progress of the distribution of ration cards at the Deputy Commissioner's office here. Ms. Singh expressed displeasure at the tardy progress with regard to distribution and said although the deadline was approaching officials had not delivered the goods. Ms. Singh asked secretaries of the gram panchayats, village accountants, food inspectors and nodal officers to address the grievances of the applicants with regard to cards under all schemes. The Deputy Commissioner would conduct the next review meeting in three days, she said. She lauded the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, who suspended officials for dereliction of duty concerning the distribution of ration cards. Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, K. Sundar Naik, Deputy Director of the Department of Food Devoor and tahsildars of the three taluks were present. Press conference Addressing presspersons later, Ms. Singh said the State Food Minister had requested the Union Petroleum Minister to allot more kerosene to Kodagu district. This would help the people of the district to get more rations especially in view of the difficulties owing to monsoon. A similar demand was placed before the Food Minister during his previous visit by the district administration. She said the first round of distribution of cards in the State had concluded. Referring to the anomalies in the distribution of ration cards, she said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has asked the Deputy Commissioner's in the districts to take steps to correct the mistakes. Mr. Yadav said of the total of 1,44,399 families in the district, 1,34,422 had already availed the cards. In the first stage 18,363 applications were received, of which 18,123 had been examined and corrected, he added.
