Poorvisha surprises Reshma

BANGALORE : The second seed, S. Poorvisha upstaged top seed, Reshma Karthik to bag the girls' under-13 singles title in the Wearhouse State-ranking badminton championship at the Sadhashivanagar Club courts here on Tuesday. In a well contested match, Poorvisha won 21-17, 21-18.

Uttara Prakash and R. Rishika set up a summit clash in the girls' under-16 singles event. Uttara outplayed Cital 21-8, 21-13 and Rishika beat Ashwitha Ravi 21-12, 19-21, 21-1.

The talented sub-junior, Vinay Hari advanced to the boys' under-16 singles semifinals with a hard fought 21-17, 15-21, 22-20 win over Anirudh Shenoy. Joining Hari in the last four were Ajay Patil, Karan Anil Kumar and Shashank Menon.

The results:

Boys: Under-16 quarterfinals: Ajya Patil bt Himanshu 21-2, 21-10; Karan Anil Kumar bt Chirag 21-10, 21-16; Vinay Hari bt Anirudh Shenoy 21-17, 15-21, 22-20; Shashank Menon bt Suraj 21-17, 18-21, 21-17.

Under-10 semifinals: S. Sudeep bt B.R. Sankeerth 21-13, 15-21, 21-1; Mithun Manjunath bt Vaishista 21-12, 21-16.

Girls: under-13 final: S. Poorvisha bt Reshma Karthik 21-7, 21-18.

Under-16 semifinals: Uttra Prakash bt Cital 21-8, 21-13; R. Rishika bt Ashwitha Ravi 21-12, 19-21, 21-1.

One-run win for SBMJC

Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College `C' scored an exciting one-run win over MES College in the VIE '07 inter-collegiate cricket tournament organised by the SBMJC here on Tuesday.

Salman Irfan top socred for SBMJC with 52 and good a knock of V.S. Pawar, who slammed 94, went in vain for MES College.

In the other matches, Vijaya College beat Sindhi College by nine runs while Al-Ameen College defeated Christ College by three wickets.

The scores (20 overs-a-side):

KLE College 134 for nine (Subramani five for 34 ) lost to National College 135 for three (Deepak 47).

Christ College 101 for nine (Sarfraz four for 12 ) lost to Al-Ameen College 102 for seven.

Vijaya College 117 for four (Vineet Ashok 61 n.o.) beat Sindhi College 108 for eight.

SBMJC `C' 149 for seven (Salman Irfan 52) beat MES College 148.
