Prakash asks for report on assault on professor

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Home Minister M.P. Prakash has sought information from Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan about the episode of assault on the nephew of MES College Sanskrit professor K.S. Venkatesh in front of the main gate of Raj Bhavan on Monday night.

Mr. Prakash told presspersons on Tuesday that he had asked the DGP to look into the issue.

He would comment on the episode after getting information from the DGP. The incident happened when Prof. Venkatesh, based on whose complaint the police have booked an attempt to murder case against Visvesha Thirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, had come to the Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to the Governor's office alleging that the police had kept himself and his sister under illegal detention besides assaulting them.

Meanwhile, the habeas corpus petition filed by Mr. Venkatesh's advocate Dwarkanath is coming up for hearing before the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday.
