Thanjavur: MDMK rebel leader L.Ganesan has said that he will meet Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on or before January 12 and discuss prospects of his party forging an alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Mr. Ganesan told reporters here on Tuesday that he was hopeful of proving before the Election Commission that the party led by him and Gingee Ramachandran was the real MDMK. Even as Vaiko was holding many general council members and district secretaries captive, thirteen office-bearers of the party from Pudukottai district met him on Tuesday and expressed their desire to work under his and Mr. Ramachandran's leadership. Mr. Ganesan presented them before reporters. They include general council members U.K.Karupaiah from Arimalam and S.Pazhanimanickam from Kantharvakottai; Pudukottai district assistant secretary D.Palmani, and district representative from Karambakudi A.T.Paneerselvam. Asked what would be his move if Mr. Vaiko convinced the Election Commission and won the legal battle to prove that his was the real MDMK, Mr. Ganesan recalled that in 1993, Vaiko had claimed that his was the real DMK and the party's symbol belonged to him. Later, he floated the MDMK. Like that they might launch a new party. But, certainly they would have an alliance with DMK.
No merger
Mr. Ganesan said he would not merge his party with the DMK.
