ANANTAPUR: As part of the police campaign against factionalism and to bring serenity in faction-ridden villages, Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra has brought together two groups, which were at loggerheads till recently, in Vasapuram village of Yellanur mandal in the district. Accompanied by other police officers, the SP spent a couple of hours with the villagers on Saturday last and spoke to the two groups led by Narendra Naidu and Chandrasekhara Naidu. The SP explained to them the ills of factional feuds and their adverse impact on the development of the village. Though both the groups were supporters of K. Suryapratap Reddy of the Congress, who was killed in Tadipatri last year, the Chandrasekhara Naidu group has allied with Bhogati Narayana Reddy, a staunch follower of J.C. Diwakar Reddy.A vertical split in the village between the two groups has been keeping development at bay and the fact that the village does not even have a motorable road, drinking water facility and other basic amenities is attributed purely to the factional feuds. The rivalry has claimed 10 lives, with the latest being two followers of Bhogati Narayana Reddy killed while returning home after attending Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's public meeting at Bandlapalli in February last year. It was allegedly in retaliation to the murder of one Kedar Naidu of the village in Anantapur in December 2004.
`Good omen'
The SP termed the compromise a "good omen".
