KARIMNAGAR: TRS president and Karimnagar MP K Chandrashekhar Rao has accepted the challenge posed by Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Laxmaiah for a debate on the Pothireddypadu head regulator and prove the charges to protect the interests of Telangana region. "Mr Ponnala is deceiving the people of Telangana with his false claims on the Pothireddypadu head regulator and his own self-deception. He is deceiving his own land where he was born and bought up only to safeguard his post and win the sympathy of Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy,'' he alleged. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the TRS president demanded the Irrigation Minister to decide the venue for the debate and depute journalists and retired irrigation experts from the State and other States too so that the TRS would prove how Telangana was betrayed on the irrigation front. He also said that they would approach the Supreme Court and secure stay on the execution of Pothireddypadu head regulator.
Scathing attack
Expressing concern over diversion of 120 tmcft of flood waters from the Krishna through Pothireddypadu, he said that the existing projects on the Krishna, viz Bheema, Nettampadu, SLBC, Kalwakurthy and others would completely dry up forcing permanent drought in Telangana region. Launching a scathing attack against the Chief Minister for his `arrogant' and `undemocratic' attitude over the execution of Pothireddypadu in the presence of police force, he said a responsible Chief Minister should clarify the doubts raised by the Opposition parties. Mr Rao also flayed Congress legislators and MPs from Telangana for remaining silent on irrigation projects and failing to provide assured power supply to the farmers of the region.
