CHALKING OUT STRATEGY: BJP State president Bandaru Dattreya and executive members at a meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Photo: Satish H.
HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to launch an agitation for bifurcation of the State and prepare an action plan for the proposed stir at the party's `chintan baithak' to be held soon. Disclosing this to reporters here on Tuesday after the first meeting of the newly-appointed office-bearers, State BJP president, Bandaru Dattatreya, said the movements in support of separate Telangana and Andhra regions would be intensified in light of the recent by-elections to Karimnagar and Bobbili Lok Sabha seats.
Poor performance
Mr. Dattatreya attributed the party's poor performance in Karimnagar to `Telangana sentiment' and claimed that BJP would emerge as a strong force in the coastal belt. He said the `chintan baithak' (brainstorming session) would come out with a comprehensive plan for strengthening the organisation by the 2009 Assembly elections. Describing the Congress decision in favour of a second SRC as bogus, he said the BJP would extend `unconditional support' if a Bill for creating Telangana State, including Ranga Reddy district and Hyderabad city, is introduced in Parliament.
Mobilising farmers
The party also gave a call to the district units to mobilise farmers and organise agitations in a big way on January 18, 19 and 20 demanding nine-hour power supply for agricultural operations. An agitation would also be organised to protest against the failure of the State and Central Governments to control the prices of essential commodities. Reiterating the party's demand for setting up IIT at Basar, Mr. Dattatreya urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to reconsider the decision of establishing it at Isnapur. He also announced the party's support to the all-party agitation in Adilabad demanding that the prestigious institute be set up at Basar. He asked the Government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the decision to increase the capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator.
