HYDERABAD:
The State Government will come up with a plan on extending ESI, EPF and minimum wages to domestic workers.
Addressing women workers at a programme organised to mark the International Domestic Workers' Day here on Wednesday, Labour Minister G. Vinod said his department was exploring the possibility of providing necessary facilities to domestic workers. Minister for School Education N. Rajyalakshmi urged domestic workers not to send their children to work. The Government would take stringent action against those who engaged child labourers. She urged the women to discuss the problems confronted by them every day, including long working hours, exposure to unhygienic working conditions and exploitation -- sexual and otherwise.
Hyderabad District Collector R. V. Chandravadan said there were five lakh domestic workers in the city. He said that the Government proposed pucca houses for them under the JNNURM scheme. Chairman of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh M.S.Raj Thakur inaugurated the sports meet for domestic workers. Anglo-Indian MLA Christine Lazarus also participated.
