Explosives seized

ADILABAD: Khanapur police on Monday arrested two persons and seized explosives being transported without licence. The seizure came during a vehicle check on the Khanapur-Luxettipet road. The two -- D. Tirupati and M. Venkatesh -- were transporting 4,900 electrical detonators and 3,450 non-electrical detonators and six bundles of fuse wire. MLC candidate seeks support Kakinada: D.R.K. Reddy, Chairman, G. Mamidada Educational Society and a philanthropist, has announced his candidature for MLC seat from teachers' constituency of East and West Godavari districts.

House burgled

Kakinada: The house of Puram Venkata Rathnam, proprietor of Santhi Plastic Pipes Company, located in Lalitha Nagar Colony, was burgled on Sunday when the inmates were away. The miscreants decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs.7 lakhs. - Correspondent

Six-day cricket tournament begins

NIZAMABAD: K.M Khan Memorial State-level 20-20 cricket tournament got off to a colourful start at Armoor mini sports stadium on Tuesday morning. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ms. Panabaka Lakshmi declared the six-day tournament open. `Bhavishayanidi Adalat' on Jan. 12

KARIMNAGAR: In order to redress the grievances of members of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the EPF has decided to conduct `Bhavishayanidi Adalat' on January 12 at 11 a.m. at the Office of the Assistant PF Commissioner, in Jyothinagar locality of Karimnagar town.

Bank branch opened

WARANGAL: The IndusInd Bank has opened its branch here at Hanamkonda on Monday. Senior vice president Vargehese Thambi said that the bank has 14 branches across the State and it was the 15th in Hanamkonda. The bank has a network of 148 branches and 87 offsite ATMs spread across the country, he said. Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah inaugurated the branch. — Staff Reporter

WARANGAL: The NSS unit of Thushara Degree College & Lions Club of Ekasila have jointly organised a blood donation camp here on Monday. CHITTOOR: A Senior Assistant in the Sub-Treasury Office at Chittoor was arrested on Tuesday by ACB officials when he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.500 from a retired school teacher. The officials laid a trap for Chinna Rajadurai following a complaint from the teacher, Sambasiva Murthy, that he refused to transfer his pension account from Tirupati to Chittoor Sub-Treasury and release his pension if he did not pay the amount. — Special Correspondent

MP opens lab

KURNOOL: Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy, MP, and M.A. Gafoor, MLA, inaugurated the central laboratory at the General Hospital here on Monday. The MP announced grant of Rs. 5 lakhs from the MPLADS for development of infrastructure in the hospital.

Hospital Superintendent Anjaiah said the central lab would provide all diagnostic facilities at one place. — Special Correspondent
