NO EGG FOR ME: Students taking part in a demonstration organised by members of Jagruth Yuva Sena, Hubli-Dharwad, in Hubli on Tuesday.

HUBLI: Seers of several maths including Sri Visheshateerth Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swamiji of Moorusavir Math, Sri Dayananda Swamiji of Akhil Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha have decided to intensify their protest if the State Government went ahead with its move to include eggs under the midday meal scheme.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Tuesday, Sri Visheshwateertha Swamiji, Gurusiddha Rajayogindra swamiji, Dayananda Swamiji, Siddhaling Swamiji, Basavling swamiji, Jadesiddheshwar swamiji, Megharaj Kawad, Mahendra Singhi, G.M. Chikkamath and others strongly condemned the proposed move of the Government.

They also criticised the idea of students being given the choice to select the food. Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister had given assurance that they would not go ahead with the proposal. However, the officials have started implementing the order of including eggs under midday meal scheme despite their assurances, said Sri Dayananda Swamiji.

The swamiji recalled that when S. Bangarappa was Chief Minister, a similar proposal was mooted. However owing to protests from seers of various maths, the cabinet had dropped the move. Sri Visheshwateerth Swamiji, appealed to the Government not to spark of another controversy by the proposed move. He also urged the Government not to put pressure on any community with such moves. Since the issue is sentimental, it is better that the Government withdraws its move immediately.Criticising the move, Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swamiji requested the Government to include other nutritious food items like milk and fruits instead of eggs.

Dayananda swamij urged the Government to drop the move, as it would hurt the sentiments of people.

    Emergency meeting

The swamiji said all the seers of various maths of the State would meet the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister shortly to make an appeal to them. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil would be coordinating in this regard, he added.

Already necessary groundwork has been made to stage statewide protests against the move. However a final decision would be taken after the meeting with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
