EQUIPPING THEM: A three-day refresher course being inaugurated at Malnad Engineering College in Hassan on Tuesday.
Hassan: A three-day refresher course on conducting laboratory classes was inaugurated at the Malnad Engineering College on Tuesday by C.S. Krishna Swamy, treasurer, Malnad Technical Education Society. The programme was arranged for the technical staff of engineering colleges under the Visweswaraiah Technological University.
Keynote address
Delivering the keynote address on "Recent trends in alternative fuels", G.P. Prabhu Kumar, principal, Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore, said alternative fuel was the need of the hour and research was under way on this. Bio-fuels made out of jatropha and honge were non-polluting, he said. In his presidential remarks, secretary of Malnad Technical Education Society, D.A. Chandre Gowda, said a saturation point would soon be reached in the use of fossil fuel and people had to go in for alternate fuel. About 100 participants from various engineering colleges under VTU are participating in the refresher course. Nodal Officer, Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme, G.M. Mohan Babu, explained about the programme.
