NEW DELHI: The names of Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken and the Member of Parliament from Karol Bagh, Krishna Tirath, figure in a list of 17 released by the General Administration Department of the Delhi Government of people who have not returned their laptop computers to the department after ceasing to be members of the Delhi Assembly. In response to an appeal filed under the Right to Information Act, Deputy Secretary J. G. Nanda has replied that laptops costing Rs 1.30 lakhs each had been supplied to all the MLAs elected to the Assembly in the 1998-99 elections. The amount, he said, had been spent through the non-Plan expenditure account. While 48 of the MLAs had returned the laptops on completion of their term in the Assembly, and many of these laptops are now being used by officials in the Secretariat, as many as 17 former MLAs did not return their laptops to the Department. These former MLAs are Mahender Singh Saathi, Ajay Maken, Deepchand Bandhu, Ashok Singh, Krishna Tirath, Jaspal Singh, Darshana Ram Kumar, Jagdish Anand, Mahendra Singh Yadav, Mahendra Singh Bhattewal, Ramesh Kumar, Roopchand, Avinash Sahni, Sushila Jaikishen, Nand Kishore Garg, Radheyshyam Khanna and Ramsingh Netaji. In his response on January 8, Mr. Nanda also stated that the Department had constantly sent reminders to all the former MLAs who had not returned their laptops.
