CHANDIGARH: The Indian National Lok Dal has urged the Prime Minister to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the alarming condition of deteriorating law and order situation in the country. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, INLD chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala sought a national consensus and comprehensive policy on the issue. He alleged that the law and order situation in Assam, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country was grim and worsening day by day. "India's international image is suffering and this will have an adverse effect on the national development and foreign investments. The country is on verge of disintegration and strong initiative is required,'' he further asserted. Mr. Chautala described the Nithari serial killings as a scar for society and the nation. "The Nithari sort of crimes are crime against humanity and all politicians including Congress president Sonia Gandhi should desist from politicising the issue,'' he added. However, he charged that in Gurgaon alone, about 29 people had already been murdered in a series of killings but Ms. Gandhi could not find time to visit Gurgaon to console the families. He added that she was trying to secure political mileage by demanding dismissal of the Mulayam Government on the Nithari issue. He criticised the Congress for taking lightly the Gurgaon massacre which was highly condemnable. Stating that the law and order situation in Haryana was very bad and the Gurgaon massacre was not less than the Nithari episode, he demanded quick action against the culprits of the Nithari and Gurgaon serial killings so that sense of security could be restored in the public. Meanwhile, hundreds of INLD activists participated in the demonstrations and processions at Sirsa, Faridabad and Jind to lodge their protest against the "rampant corruption, deteriorating law and order, scarcity of water and electricity, rising prices of commodities of daily use and the sealing drive.''
