RAMANATHAPURAM: In a late night operation on Tuesday, the Ramanathapuram district police arrested four Sri Lankan nationals who had illegally entered the Indian waters. Acting on their confession, two more persons, including a Sri Lankan refugee of the Mandapam camp, were arrested. They were identified as agents arranging `illegal boats' from Sri Lanka. According to the well-orchestrated plan, several teams of armed policemen were asked to patrol `selective' landing centres along the Rameswaram coast to monitor illegal movement of Sri Lankans. At around 12.30 a.m., a fibre boat landed at Mandapam and four persons emerged from it. They were identified as Dilojan (24), Nagaraja (37), Emil Prasanna (24) and Delexher (27). All hailed from Mannar district in Sri Lanka. The boat had two outboard 35 HP motor engines. Before sunrise, Mavunam alias Murugesan (35) of Mandapam and Krishnavannan (21), a refugee residing in the Mandapam camp, were arrested.
Enquiry ordered
"A detailed enquiry has been ordered to find out why they landed on Indian shores. Interrogation is on to find out whether they had visited earlier." said R. Thirugnanam, SP Ramanathapuram district.
