CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government is fully geared up to process the judiciary's proposal to notify the amended recruitment rules for appointing 81 civil judges (junior division), and it will be done by January 22, the Madras High Court was informed on Tuesday. When a taken-up writ petition on the delay in notifying the new recruitment rules, forwarded to the Government by the High Court, came up for further hearing, Government Pleader Raja Kalifulla said the authorities would require time to complete the process. The matter was then adjourned to January 22, with a reminder that notifying of rules was a State Government function. An official press release said the State Government was taking "immediate action to process the draft rules in consultation with the Departments of P&AR, Public and Law." Denying there was any delay on the part of the Government in filling up the vacant posts of civil judges (junior division), it said, "after getting approval from these departments, the Government would consult the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and then issue the approval for the draft rules expeditiously." The issue relating to the filling up of vacancies in the subordinate judiciary has been in existence from the time of the previous regime, it said, adding that after the present Government assumed office a policy decision to continue the recruitment through the TNPSC was taken. The Registrar-General's letter dated December 21 was received by the Government the next day, it said.
