NEW DELHI: A six-member delegation of members of Parliament from Assam, led by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Sontosh Mohan Dev, met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday and apprised him of the latest situation on the terrorist assaults in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and elsewhere in the State. B. K. Handique, Union Minister of State for Chemicals, Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, also accompanied the delegation comprising Dwijendra Nath Sharma, Karnendu Bhattacharjee, L. M. Suklabaidya, Kirip Chaliha, M. K. Subba and S. Condpan. They requested the Prime Minister to render all possible help to bring back normality and restore harmony in the State. The Prime Minister assured all possible help and informed the delegation that he was seized of the situation. In addition to the Rs.3 lakh compensation being provided by the Assam Government, the Prime Minister said that he was also issuing instructions for providing Rs.2 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of each deceased person in the recent attack. The Prime Minister said Defence Minister A. K. Antony along with Army Generals were visiting the State to take stock of the situation and recommend remedial measures.
