BANGALORE: It is a situation of give and take for the Government that proposes to acquire over a thousand acres of farm land just around two km. from the yet to be commissioned Devanahalli International Airport, for industrial purposes. For, the farmers of four villages who are likely to lose their land have asked the Government to announce the compensation package before even taking up the survey work. Just as the State Government has issued notification to acquire 1,209 acres of land in B.K. Palya, Singahalli, Aribinnamangala, Bandikodigehalli and Gollahalli for industrial purposes, the farmers have refused to allow the officials to undertake the survey work. On Monday, when four officials of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and Revenue Department arrived at Bandikodigehalli village to take up the joint survey, the villagers did not allow them to conduct the survey. The farmers said they had not been issued individual notices for the survey. Without being informed about the purpose of the survey and fair amount of compensation is announced, the survey would not be allowed, they said. Convenor of the Horata Samithi V.S. Gowda told The Hindu that they would not allow the survey to be conducted unless the Government announced the compensation package for land losers, who were mostly marginal farmers. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister for Heavy Industries, Katta Subramanya Naidu had promised to solve the impasse, but farmers had not heard from them so far, he added.
