HYDERABAD: Indian ambassadors to Lebanon and Syria have said that trade delegations from India can explore the vast scope for bilateral trade in the two countries. Ambassadors G. Mukhopadhyaya (Syria) and Nengcha Lhouvum (Lebanon) during an interaction with members of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) on Tuesday said there was immense scope for Indians to invest in the two West Asian countries in the fields of banking, pharmaceuticals, information technology, tourism and infrastructure development.
Virgin market
Mr. Mukhopadhyaya said Syria with a population of 18 million offered a virgin market for investors. He said if the reconstruction of Iraq began, Syria would be one of the platforms from which development activity would take place. Since the 1990s Syria had been liberalising banking and finance sectors thereby offering good scope for business opportunities. He called upon Indian businessmen to have a look at the immense business potential in Syria's pharmaceutical sector, railways, IT, education, tourism, construction, agro-processing industries, textiles and textile machineries. He said plans were afoot to invite business delegations from India to visit Syria and explore trade opportunities. Ms. Lhouvum said that Lebanon was a gateway to several neighbouring countries.
