NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday carried out a major demolition drive targeting illegal constructions at Lado Sarai in South Delhi. The civic body's squads also sealed more than 130 illegal shops and offices in different civic zones during the day. Armed with bulldozers and heavy machinery, the MCD demolition squads reached Lado Sarai and demolished illegal portions of a building under construction on Old M B Road as ordered by the Delhi High Court-appointed Monitoring Committee. The entire first floor was cut off by a pneumatic hammer. Elsewhere in the city, the MCD sealing squads continued with their sealing drive targeting 138 illegal commercial properties in residential areas. Of these, 42 premises were sealed at Vikaspuri and Ashok Nagar in West Zone and 30 were targeted on Swami Parmanand Marg in Central Zone. In Karol Bagh Zone, 25 premises were sealed on K.S. Krishnan Marg, while 19 were sealed on Lower Bela Road between Calcutta Bridge and Old Yamuna Bridge in Civil Lines Zone.
In Shahdara-South Zone, 12 premises were sealed
Since November 8, the MCD has sealed a total of 4,730 premises.
