Chinese team learns `Bhagidari' lessons

NEW DELHI: A seven-member Chinese delegation led by the vice-president of the Central Party School in China, Wang Weiguang, paid a visit to the Directorate of Training (Union Territory Civil Services) of the Delhi Government on Tuesday where a presentation on "Bhagidari" and "Training" was made before them.

The Delhi Government officials informed the delegation that the "Bhagidari" programme, initiated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in 2000 for bringing citizens, Government and other stakeholders face-to-face for dialogue and collaborative problem-solving exercise, had won wide acclaim at national and international forums. In 2005, the Bhagidari scheme was conferred the United Nations Public Service Award for improving transparency, accountability and responsiveness in the public service category.

According to a Delhi Government release, the Chinese delegates were also impressed by the strides made by the Directorate of Training that has witnessed a growth of 103.81 per cent during 2005-06 over the past years in the number of officials trained.

Three alleged criminals arrested

NEW DELHI: Three alleged criminals have been arrested by the North Delhi police with a huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition. A county-made rifle, nine country-made pistols and 32 live cartridges have been recovered from their possession, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the accused, identified as Arjun (22), Satender (21) and Ramesh (25), were arrested at Chandni Chowk on Monday. They were here allegedly to deliver the consignment to a party.

During interrogation, Arjun purportedly confessed to having delivered illegal arms and ammunition to one Abdul Sajid in Delhi on earlier occasions as well. He said he had procured the arms and ammunition from one Shadeen in Uttar Pradesh.

Power tripping at many places

NEW DELHI: Because of the extreme cold conditions in the Northern region, under-frequency tripping took place nearly a dozen times in the Capital on Tuesday from 5-40 a.m. to 12-40 p.m. Delhi Transco officials maintained that the Capital was under-drawing power from the Northern Grid during the under-frequency tripping.

Because of the extreme cold, the demand for power has increased. While Delhi has made adequate arrangements for meeting the demand, the other States in the region have been overdrawing.

Labourers injured

NEW DELHI: Four labourers sustained minor injuries when an under-construction hall collapsed at New Usmanpur in East Delhi on Tuesday. According to the police, the labourers were taken to a nearby hospital. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
