dated January 11, 1957: Anti-beggar drive

The activities of the special anti-beggar squads of the Railway Protection Force will be strengthened on all railways in pursuance of the Railway Board's latest directive to intensify the anti-beggar campaign. The Railway Board has decided that in future the railways should resort to physical removal of beggars from their premises in view of the experience that mere appeals to the passengers not to encourage beggars had not produced results. The present publicity campaign urging the travelling public not to encourage begging on the station premises will, however, be continued.
