This Day That Age
The Negroes of Montgomery, Alabama, who recently won their case in the US Supreme Court against segregation in town buses, have taken the Gandhian line to win the hearts of the white man. Leaders of the passive resistance movement in a circular leaflet have advised the Negroes of Montgomery: "If cursed, do not curse back. If pushed, do not push back. If struck, do not strike back. But do not get up from your seat." The bus boycott by the Negroes ended when the Supreme Court approved of a lower court decision holding segregation in buses as unconstitutional.
