Dressing up for Pongal

It's Indo-western style this year

The impression of a branded product comes with the rider of gravity-defying price and tacked with side effects of a heart and pocket burn. Not anymore though. To cash in on the festive mood, the enticing range of offers gives plenty of options for striking a freewheeling shopping deal for Pongal.

Wrangler, Arrow and Lee have all come up with a variety of offers. Arrow has a range of themes to suit the modern man's stylized fashion. Formals, Premium, Classics, Sports and Urban are some of the theme collection at the store. No longer limited to checks and stripes, the shirt is witnessing a fashion makeover.

A range of bright and bold colours is included in the collection. In keeping with the ultra modern styling, structured modifications too have been instituted with superfine cuts and an eye for detail contributing to the dandy look.

Lee has introduced a range of corduroy shirts in different colours and styles. Semi-formal cotton shirts with the classy look of style and grace are there for the pick.

Indo-western style being the buzzword, most showrooms and boutiques have stocked up specially embroidered formal shirts and sporty t-shirts to suit the needs of the stylish independent woman. An ethnic blend of Indo-Western style seems to be the latest craze with the youth in the city.

"Gold and metallic shades are the colours of the festive season," states Mona of Passions boutique. Short length kurtis in bright colours have become the season's style mantra. Along with the kurtis, embroidered skirts ranging from Rs.295 to Rs.695 are very much in vogue. Passions has a range of embroidered belts that can compliment well with a plain kurta and give that grand festive look. Satin belts with beadwork range from Rs.295 to Rs.695.

To usher in the festive season, a whole range of enticing cotton and khadi fabrics adorns the plush interiors of Prapancha boutique. The khadi is in vogue for its comfort and ethnic look. Now a part of every wardrobe, designers use Khadi, both in their ready-to-wear as well as couture collections. Short tops and trendy knee length skirts in natural earthy colours ranging from Rs.395 to Rs.995 are available at the boutique. The exquisite embroidery or sequence work done on the short kurtas bring a whiff of fresh air. Intense, classic, festive and feminine but never over the top - these new designs make their debut this season as an ultimate ode to feminine grace.

The smart printed cotton trousers with a sleek touch of embroidery when teamed with a short kurta can give not only an elegant and rich look but also add extra zing to the couture. In some creations, the embroidery is elaborate - up to the waist and subtly exposed with slits.

And to complete the festive look, a colourful variety of terracotta and jute jewellery is lined up on the walls, starting from Rs.60 onwards. The trendy line of lightweight junk jewellery is hallmarked. Be they bracelets, earrings, anklets or rings, the designs are sleek.
