Letters to the Editor
This refers to the article "Singur to Nandigram and beyond" (Jan. 10). The death of six persons in clashes instigated by some organisations in Nandigram is unfortunate. The fact that these organisations played up rumours of land acquisition saying the West Bengal Government had issued eviction notices, when the reality is that it has not even completed the identification of lands, shows their vested interest. All political parties should discuss the issue of land acquisition with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who has been inviting them for talks. Only then can a suitable policy covering all issues be evolved.
A. Vasu Kishore Reddy,
It is ironical but not surprising that diverse elements such as the Jamait-e-Ulema-Hind, the BJP, the Congress, and the Trinamool Congress who have been sabotaging land reforms and lampooning the Left for the industrial lag of West Bengal, have now joined forces to create road blocks in the efforts of the State Government in negotiating the best possible ways in creating industries with least rural distress. It seems the feudal forces irrespective of their religious or other affiliations, who were upset with their deprivation of large landholdings which were distributed to the rural poor, are ganging up with a vengeance in spreading falsehood. The Government should exercise patience and educate the people on the factual position.
Kasim Sait,
