Rs. 27.71 crore earmarked for cooperative project

SALEM: A three-member team from National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) carried out the appraisal of Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) in Salem district.

The team, comprising Deputy Director, (ICDP), NCDC, New Delhi, S. Susil Malhotra, Assistant Directors R.K.Lala and R. Narayanan, visited various cooperative societies in the district.

Later at a meeting, the team members interacted with the heads of cooperatives functioning in the fields of dairy, handloom, industry, fisheries, sericulture, social welfare and animal husbandry in the district. Activities planned under the project were discussed during the meeting, a press release said.

It was proposed to implement the project at an outlay of Rs. 27.71 crore in the district. Cooperatives in all the nine taluks in the district would be covered under the project.

The project was aimed at creating adequate infrastructure facilities for cooperatives and providing loans for the development of business potentials of all primary cooperative societies and district central cooperative bank (DCCB). Subsidy would be provided for training and manpower development. Several other activities for the overall development of the cooperative societies would also be carried out through the project, the release said.

Joint Director of Cooperatives P. Joghee, DCCB Special Officer K.M. Tamilarasan, Ponni Cooperative Super Market Special Officer K. Ganesan, District Cooperative union special officer D. Muthukrishnan were present during the meeting.
