Colombo: At least 16 persons were killed and 25 others injured on Tuesday in clashes between Tamil Tiger rebels and the Army in different parts of the country, said the Defence Ministry. Ten Tamil Tiger rebels were killed and another 25 injured when the army retaliated against an artillery attack by the LTTE in the east. The Defence Ministry said in a statement ``technical sources'' confirmed that the 10 members of the LTTE were killed in the district of Batticaloa in a military shelling. ``Army troops came under attack this morning and soldiers repulsed their artillery and mortar attack,'' acting military spokesperson Maj Upali Rajapakse said about the battle in the district. There was no immediate word from the Tigers about the military claim. PTI
