Workers' unions stage demonstration

Puducherry: Members affiliated to various trade unions of autorickshaws and transport workers staged a demonstration in response to the call given by joint action committee of trade unions in front of offices of the general insurance companies here on Wednesday. They were protesting increase in the quantum of premium, the companies levied under motor vehicle insurance. The demonstrators wanted its immediate withdrawal.

Leaders and functionaries of Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Mini Load Carriers Workers Unions, Labour Democratic Front, and Kamaraj Auto Workers Union were among those who participated in the demonstration. A release said that all autorickshaws and transport workers would go on a token strike on January 20.
