BANGALORE: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) has announced the results of the Karnataka Administrative Service KAS 2006 in a record time of five months. KPSC Chairman H.N. Krishna told presspersons here on Wednesday that the KAS examination procedure had been completed in five months. The KAS examination for the 2005 batch was completed in 10 months and that of the 1999 batch in five years and the 1998 batch in six years. The 1998 batch examination was caught up in legal wrangles and this had an impact on the 1999 batch as well. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) takes around 12 months to complete the procedure. Mr. Krishna said that in all, 1,700 of the 84,000 candidates have passed the main examination held in December last. Of them, 505 would be called for interview to fill the 101 posts (in the ratio of 1:5). While 1,929 candidates had passed the preliminary examination, in the main examination, 15 failed in Kannada, 14 in English, 185 were absent, 12 were involved in court cases and one of them was debarred following malpractice. Of the 101 posts, 50 have been earmarked for the general category and the remaining for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the backward classes. Mr. Krishna said the valuation of the answer scripts of the main examination was carried out twice and if there was a 15 per cent variation in the two valuations, then the answer scripts concerned were subjected to a third round of valuation. Candidates have been permitted to seek a re-totalling of the marks also, he said.
